Stumbled Upon, and Will Be Back
We stumbled on this inn doing a web search on places to spend our anniversary and it was PERFECT. It is located right in the historic part of Yorktown and a block to the water. The room was gorgeous and spacious. Breakfast was delicious and we were even treated to a history of the house and of Yorktown. We will definitely be back and are recommending it to all our friends.
Will Be Visiting Again
We recently visited the Hornsby house for the first time. The staff and the home were unbelievable. The first night was wine and cheese with Tom. We sat in front of the fireplace as Tom took the time to explain everything about the home. It was truly amazing.
The next morning, we were seated in a fabulous room with other guests and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast prepared by Kat. By the time breakfast was done, we had made new friends.
This was a truly amazing vacation and just for the moment it felt like we stepped back in time. Kind staff and plenty of memories. Thank you Tom, Kat and Lexi. We will be visiting again!
Old World Elegance
The Hornsby House Inn, although a popular place in which to orchestrate a wedding, offers a valuable quiet solitude along with an environment suggestive of Old-World elegance that Anglophiles like myself find irresistible. Along with a comfortable King-sized bed and memory-foam pillows one is also offered a homemade breakfast suitable for the dignitary that you are that would have made your Grandmother jealous. We dined on a fat omelet served with fresh squeezed orange juice one morning, and on the next morning we were served quiche that I’m certain would have distracted Rochambeau and Lafayette momentarily from their war efforts. As with most of the people with whom one comes into contact in Yorktown, our hosts at the Hornsby House Inn were above all friendly, professional, accommodating, and lacking in that “attitude” of being inconvenienced one finds in so many businesses and localities these days.
The side porch is inviting and shady with its ceiling fan and croquet set awaiting a match out on the lawn; upon entering the house proper one is immediately transported to Grandma’s house with rich aromas of culinary creativity lazily drifting from the kitchen.
Unlike Grandma’s house there sits a full beverage fridge and fancy K-cup coffee machine in the vestibule sitting on antique furniture. The dining room hosts a long dining room table furnished with linens and china, fully adorned as if I had just seated myself at Downton Abbey. There are several gas fireplaces and one traditional fireplace in the home. This latter hearth I look forward to visiting during the Winter months while I read something bound and papery, instead of digital and computery, from the shelves found in the room, preferably a magazine article by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle or perhaps a few verses by Rudyard Kipling. Yes, that would be nice, with a hot cup of tea!
